The quietPresence standard cloud offering provides a comprehensive, wholesale/private label, on-demand cloud computing platform. The qpCLOUD has been architected to be agile in deployment, massively scalable, hypervisor agnostic and geographically redundant.

HIGH LEVEL ARCHITECTURE

With the qpCLOUD, the infrastructure necessary to host a cloud that can scale across thousands of machines is immediately available. Designed from the beginning to be deployed as a wholesale service, the qpCLOUD management layer allows the definition of CPU power, memory size, and storage capacity associated with cloud service plans. The qpCLOUD then tracks resource utilization and generates end-user billing data according to actual usage. Full integration APIs are available for complete service plan, administrative and billing control.

qpCLOUD services are typically deployed as zones which represent a geographical location or data center. Within a zone, any number of smaller cloud pods are deployed to scale horizontally as demand increases. The qpCLOUD management layer communicates with the specified hypervisor to initiate and terminate virtual servers, manage physical resources, provide load balancing and ensure high-availability servers are always running.

COMPUTE NODES

Because the qpCLOUD is a hypervisor agnostic platform, we currently support Citrix® XenServer®, VMWare® and the latest open source version of Xen®. Native support for Hyper-V® and KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) is planned for later release in 2010. Our hypervisor management and cloud framework layer:

  • provides all the CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources needed to host the virtual machines
  • is interconnected using a gigabit network fabric
  • may reside in multiple data centers, across different geographic locations
  • is run on multi-core 64-bit hardware providing hardware virtualization
  • features compute nodes with extremely large amounts of memory

STORAGE

The qpCLOUD utilizes a high performance 128-bit file system providing industry leading scalability, performance and ease of use. With native integration with our cloud management framework, virtual machine deployments realize the benefits of high availability, geographical storage redundancy and near infinite scalability. All cloud pod deployments represent validated storage configurations.


NETWORK

Infrastructure and access partners are selected based on criteria such as network performance (throughput, latency, packet loss, SLAs, etc), geographical coverage and peering relationships. Internally, qpCLOUD zones use cloud-aware switching hardware which create a converged networking fabric providing line-rate, non- blocking performance and low latency. This switching fabric makes qpCLOUD deployments ideal for high performance computing and I/O- intensive applications.

WHOLESALE FOCUS

Our service focuses directly on the wholesale cloud services market. To provide rapid implementation, quietPresence has developed specialized virtual machine instances that contain an all-in-one client management, billing & support solution. This white label solution provides complete billing, automation, and end user support tools through a fully brandable architecture.

USER INTERFACES and APIs

The qpCLOUD architecture supports control and management through two levels of web interface (provider and end-user) and a comprehensive set of application programming interfaces (APIs). The provider administrative interface provides management of service offerings, users and groups, virtual machine templates, virtual machine life cycle states and network configurations. The end user interface supports functions for self provisioning, complete virtual machine control, web-based console access (keyboard, video and mouse), IP forwarding, load balancing, reporting and more.
