Xtreme Compute Technologies, (XCT), a growing provider of hybrid GPU-based solutions across academia, government, and commercial markets, has been working closely with its trusted partners in the HPC arena in migrating these GPU-based HPC solutions from the laboratory research setting into the real world application arena. This initiative is based on the strong belief that the key supporting hardware and software technologies have matured to the critical tipping point where the benefits of hybrid HPC are ready for deployment into a much wider addressable market. In recent years, GPU’s have represented the leading edge of the democratization of HPC and we continue to see this rapid evolution, especially in regards to on-demand delivery of these capabilities through the emergence of Public and Private Cloud Infrastructure deployments.

With its recent announcement of its XtremeReality-Platform, XCT is positioning this solution as the key vehicle for executing on their new strategy. XR-P is a purpose-built, customizable solution ideally suited to a wide array of HPC applications. These include quantitative analysis, high frequency trading, bimolecular research, digital media production, image analysis and any problem set requiring high core counts through the use of GPU’s in combination with extreme throughput via high-speed SSD modules. Offering the fastest compute and data throughput in the industry, in a flexible insert chassis for scale out and scale up deployments, XR-P delivers limitless performance possibilities across the spectrum of HPC market segments. Drawing on our teams’ and our partner’s years of experience in the HPC arena, our goal with XR-P is to create a solution that can be deployed against the numerous challenges facing the HPC user, be they scientific, quantitative or visual in nature. The primary objective is to create a platform that is capable of seamlessly fitting into the paradigm of shared on-demand Cloud Infrastructure. We believe we have met and exceeded these goals. We are currently working on several Private Cloud Infrastructure projects that are nearing deployment with the XR-P solution in a shared resource setting.

Additionally, XCT is working closely with quietPresence, LLC, a wholesale provider of cloud computing services for the federal, telecommunications and high performance computing markets. XCT and quietPresence are positioning HPC cloud services to meet a wide-range of deployment requirements within the civilian, defense, intelligence, and geospatial application spaces. By integrating XR-P into their cloud architecture, quietPresence will offer true democratization of HPC capabilities as the government moves aggressively forward on its “Cloud First” initiatives. Furthermore, quietPresence has targeted the XR-P as a core element in its reference design for its compartmentalized cloud security instrumentation and forensics offering. The XR-P’s performance is instrumental in providing the real-time security threat analysis, data collection scale and remediation delivered by the quietPresence service. Expectation is for beta deployment in early Q4 as an on-demand service integrated with the quietPresence Compartmented Cloud™ secure cloud architecture.

XCT will be displaying the new XR-P at the upcoming 2011 High Performance Computing
Linux Financial Markets show on April 4th in New York City. http://www.flaggmgmt.com/linux/

Cloud-Based Infrastructure as a Service Comes to Government
Apps.gov to Feature Storage, Virtualization, and Web Hosting Solutions

WASHINGTON – The U.S. General Services Administration announced today that federal, state, local, and tribal governments will soon have access to cloud-based Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offerings through the government’s cloud-based services storefront, Apps.gov. GSA’s IaaS contract award allows vendors to provide government entities with cloud storage, virtual machines, and Web hosting services to support a continued expansion of governments’ IT capabilities into cloud computing environments.

“Offering IaaS on Apps.gov makes sense for the federal government and for the American people. Cloud computing services help to deliver on this Administration’s commitment to provide better value for the American taxpayer by making government more efficient,” said federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra. “Cloud solutions not only help to lower the cost of government operations, they also drive innovation across government.”

Each year, the government spends tens of billions of dollars on IT products and services, with a heavy focus on maintaining current infrastructure needs and demands. A major element of every federal agency’s IT infrastructure includes storage, computing power, and website hosting. These new Cloud Infrastructure offerings can be a way for agencies to realize cost savings, efficiencies, and modernization without having to expend capital resources expanding their existing infrastructure.

On Apps.gov, IaaS offerings will include on-demand self-service that allows government entities to utilize and discontinue use of products when and as needed. Resource pooling for practically unlimited storage and automatic monitoring of resource utilization are also features. IaaS offerings will also be provided with rapid elasticity for real-time, customizable scaling of service and automatic provisioning of virtual machines, storage, and bandwidth, and visibility into service usage and order management through measured services.

Prior to making IaaS products available through Apps.gov, vendors must complete the Certification & Accreditation (C&A) process at the FISMA Moderate Impact Data security level as administered by GSA. Once granted authority to operate, services will be made available for purchase by government entities through the Apps.gov storefront.

“Through offerings such as IaaS, GSA is providing government entities with easy access to cost-saving, high-value, more efficient technology solutions by doing a major part of the procurement processes upfront,” said GSA Associate Administrator of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies Dave McClure.” By continuously working with industry, GSA’s cloud-based services available through Apps.gov are secure, compliant, and save taxpayer dollars by reducing duplication of security processes across government.”

Awarded vendors have assembled skilled teams that will support the development of quality services for government agencies. Awarded vendors and their associated teams include:

Apptis Inc. partnered with Amazon Web Services

AT&T

Autonomic Resources partnered with Carpathia, Enomaly, and Dell

CGI Federal Inc.

Computer Literacy World partnered with Electrosoft, XO Communications and Secure Networks

General Dynamics Information Technology partnered with Carpathia

Insight Public Sector partnered with Microsoft

Savvis Federal Systems

Verizon Federal Inc.

###

As the federal government’s workplace solutions provider, the U.S. General Services Administration works to foster an effective, sustainable and transparent government for the American people. GSA’s expertise in government workplace solutions include:

• Effective management of government assets including more than 9,600 government-owned or leased buildings and 210,000 vehicles in the federal fleet, and preservation of historic federal properties;
• Leveraging the government’s buying power through responsible acquisition of products and services making up more than 11 percent of the government’s total procurement dollars;
• Providing innovative technology solutions to enhance government efficiency and increase citizen engagement; and,
• Promoting responsible use of federal resources through development of governmentwide policies ranging from federal travel to property and management practices.
